3 Naukri Profile Changes That Helped Me Land My Second Job Within 1 Month With Just 1 Year of Experience
3 Naukri Profile Changes That Helped Me Land My Second Job Within 1 Month With Just 1 Year of Experience
Job hunting can be frustrating, especially when you are applying to multiple companies but barely receiving recruiter calls.
When I started actively looking for my second job, I had only around 1 year of professional experience. I made several changes to the way I used Naukri, and within about a month, I was able to land my second job.
In this post, I'm sharing the Naukri profile changes that I personally found useful during my job search.
Important: These changes are not a guaranteed formula for getting hired. Your experience, resume, skills, interview performance, location, notice period and the availability of relevant jobs all matter. However, optimizing your Naukri profile can improve your visibility to recruiters.
REMOVE YOUR EXPECTED CTC
One of the first things I recommend checking is the Expected CTC section of your Naukri profile.
If you have entered a specific expected salary, consider removing it if the field is optional and you are comfortable discussing compensation later in the recruitment process.
Why?
Recruiters and companies have different salary budgets. If you enter a number that doesn't fit a particular opening, you may potentially reduce the number of opportunities where your profile appears relevant.
For example, imagine two candidates with similar experience and skills:
Candidate A has a fixed expected CTC entered on their profile.
Candidate B has left the expected CTC blank and is open to discussing compensation based on the role.
Depending on how a recruiter searches and filters candidates, salary information can become one of the factors considered during shortlisting.
So, instead of unnecessarily limiting yourself at the profile stage, you can discuss your compensation expectations when the recruiter contacts you.
What I did:
I removed my expected CTC from my Naukri profile while I was actively looking for opportunities.
Go to your Naukri Profile and scroll down to career profile:
Click on edit and remove the expected CTC:
Update and Save
Should everyone remove their expected CTC?
Not necessarily.
If you have a very specific salary requirement and don't want to consider roles below that amount, keeping your expected CTC can help you filter opportunities.
But if your primary goal is to maximize recruiter outreach and you are comfortable negotiating later, leaving it blank can be worth considering.
UPDATE YOUR AVAILABILITY / NOTICE PERIOD
The second thing I paid attention to was my availability.
If you are currently unemployed or can join quickly, make sure your Naukri profile accurately reflects that.
For example, if you can genuinely join immediately, select the Immediate Joiner option where applicable.
If you need around 15 days to join, select the appropriate option for your actual availability.
Don't choose immediate availability if you cannot actually join immediately. Your profile should always reflect your real situation.
Why does this matter?
Recruiters often work with specific hiring timelines. A company that needs someone within a few weeks may prioritize candidates who can join sooner than someone with a long notice period.
So if you are genuinely available within 15 days or immediately, make sure recruiters can see that information clearly.
Go to Profile in the top right:
Select view and update profile:
Update Notice Period and save:
For candidates currently serving notice:
If you are already working and serving your notice period, don't incorrectly mark yourself as immediately available.
Instead, enter your actual availability or last working date wherever Naukri provides the relevant option.
Accurate information is much more useful than trying to manipulate the profile.
KEEP YOUR NAUKRI PROFILE RECENTLY UPDATED
This is one of the simplest things you can do when you are actively searching for a job.
Don't create your Naukri profile, upload your resume once and then forget about it for several weeks.
When you are actively job hunting, make genuine updates to your profile whenever there is something that needs updating.
For example, you can review and update:
• Resume
• Skills
• Job preferences
• Notice period / availability
• Profile headline
• Employment details
• Preferred locations
• Projects
After making a genuine update, your profile can show as recently updated, which is useful when you're actively searching and want your information to remain current.
Go to Profile in the top right:
Select view and update profile:
One important point:
I wouldn't recommend making meaningless changes every single day just to manipulate the "updated" date.
Instead, keep your profile accurate and update it whenever you actually have something relevant to change.
BONUS: DON'T IGNORE YOUR RESUME
These Naukri settings can improve your profile, but they are not a replacement for a strong resume.
If your resume isn't relevant to the jobs you're targeting, changing your availability or expected CTC won't magically solve the problem.
Before applying, make sure your resume clearly communicates:
• Your total experience
• Your current/previous role
• Your technical skills
• Your strongest projects
• Your measurable achievements
• The type of roles you are targeting
For example, if you're applying for a C++ Software Engineer position, your profile should make your C++, DSA, debugging, testing and relevant software-development experience easy to identify.
BONUS: KEEP YOUR JOB PREFERENCES RELEVANT
Another section worth reviewing is your Job Preferences.
Make sure your preferences actually match the jobs you want.
Review things such as:
• Preferred job roles
• Preferred locations
• Work mode
• Industry
• Employment type
• Relevant skills
If your preferences are too narrow, you may unnecessarily reduce the number of opportunities that match your profile.
At the same time, don't select every possible role just to increase visibility. Your profile should still communicate a clear career direction.
WHAT I CHANGED DURING MY JOB SEARCH
When I was looking for my second job with around one year of experience, I focused on making my Naukri profile recruiter-friendly rather than simply applying to hundreds of jobs randomly.
The three changes I paid particular attention to were:
Removed my expected CTC
Updated my availability accurately
Kept my profile and resume recently updated
Along with that, I focused on applying to roles that actually matched my experience and skills.
MY BIGGEST TAKEAWAY
If you're currently looking for a job, don't underestimate your job portal profile.
Your resume might be good, but recruiters still need to find your profile and understand your availability and suitability for the role.
Small profile improvements can therefore be worth doing, especially when you're actively searching.
But don't fall for the idea that there is one secret Naukri hack that guarantees a job.
The better strategy is:
Optimized profile + relevant resume + targeted applications + interview preparation + consistency.
FINAL CHECKLIST
Before you start your job search, quickly check your Naukri profile:
☑️ Is your resume updated?
☑️ Is your expected CTC necessary, or can you leave it blank?
☑️ Is your availability accurate?
☑️ Is your notice period correct?
☑️ Are your skills relevant to the jobs you're targeting?
☑️ Are your preferred locations realistic?
☑️ Is your profile recently updated?
☑️ Does your headline clearly describe your target role?
FINAL THOUGHTS
I was able to land my second job within about one month of actively looking, despite having only around one year of professional experience.
There wasn't one magical trick behind it. I treated the job search like a process and made sure my profile, resume and applications were working together.
If you're currently job hunting, hopefully these small Naukri changes help you get more visibility and, more importantly, more relevant recruiter conversations.
Good luck with your job search! 🚀
